Greetings from the digital soap box I have created to invade your inbox with CrossFit…
THE IMPORTANCE OF PROPER MOVEMENT AND MOBILITY Part 1
As a Pilate’s instructor, every day I deal with people who have little or no understanding of their bodies and how it is meant to move.
With our lifestyles being so sedentary, you may have heard of sitting is the new smoking.
Therefore makes it vitally important for us to understand movement, the importance of mobility as well as the meaning of core strength! (Check this link for great movement)
With the complex movement involved at CrossFit Ex Animo, you need to understand that the key to good movement and fewer injuries is mobility.
Our muscles are incredibly powerful and human strength is limited to protect our tendons and muscles from harming themselves, your body will learn to adapt to dysfunction or poor movement by compensations.
With all the above in mind, in your training as well as your everyday lifestyle, you need to be consciously aware of what you are doing, how you are moving and be aware of instability and while doing CrossFit. The key is knowing exactly what and how you are meant to do a movement.
This is where listening to the coaches of Crossfit Ex Animo is imperative and the reason you should not coach others. There is vast knowledge amongst the coaches at this box and there is a reason they do what they do. Always ask questions, that’s why we are here.
Spending a little bit of extra time every day doing some mobility work will turn you into a better CrossFitter and lead to a better lifestyle in general.
Did you know that because of our sedentary lifestyle, our gluteus Maximus (the biggest muscle in the body) becomes completely switched off and our lower backs and hip flexors take over the roll in many of our movements? The glutes are the strongest hip extensors in your body and without the use of this muscle you are missing out on massive power and strength. It is important to address weak inactive muscles, otherwise, they will continue to get weaker, therefore, leading to compensations and a possible injury later down the line.
Your coaches will be able to give you the best advice when it comes to mobility and remember your foam roller is your friend. Get massaging those hip flexors and shoulders and open up your upper backs.
To become a better cross fitter, mobility will be your number one asset, allowing you to reach those awesome PBs that makes CrossFit so much fun. Check out the link for cool rumble roller exercises. www.rumbleroller.com/foam-roller-exercises.html
